Malaysia's busiest port is an industrial gateway, not a destination — but an hour away lies Kuala Lumpur: twin towers that pierce the clouds, a Hindu shrine inside a limestone mountain, and a city that mixes colonial squares with hawker-stall heat.
Ships dock at the Boustead Cruise Centre (or Star Cruises Terminal) in Port Klang — a working cargo port with almost nothing to do on its doorstep. Getting to Kuala Lumpur takes real effort but is completely doable.
💡 Pro move: Port Klang itself is industrial — there is nothing of cruise interest at the pier. Budget at least 2–3 hours round-trip for transfers and plan your KL priorities in advance; a full-day call of 8+ hrs is enough for one or two main sights.
All cruise ships dock at Port Klang — no tendering — but the port is industrial and transport to Kuala Lumpur (~60 km) is essential.
| Cruise Line | Typical Berth / Arrival | Dock or Tender |
|---|---|---|
| Most major cruise lines | Boustead Cruise Centre, Port Klang | Docked |
| Star Cruises / Genting | Star Cruises Terminal, Port Klang | Docked |
Every hour in port is precious here given the transfer time. Prioritise one or two KL highlights and leave enough buffer to be back at the ship on time.
The defining image of modern Malaysia — twin 88-floor steel-and-glass spires connected by a sky bridge on the 41st floor. The surrounding KLCC Park, Suria KLCC mall, and city skyline make this the must-do KL stop. Book sky bridge tickets in advance.

Walk KL's glitzy core — from the Petronas Twin Towers through KLCC Park, along Jalan Ampang, and into the Bukit Bintang shopping and food strip. Pavements are good and the route is flat.
