Getting Ashore

New York has two cruise terminals — both are straightforward with taxis, rideshares, and subway access close by.

Getting Into the City

  • 1
Manhattan Cruise Terminal (Piers 88–92)Located on the Hudson River at West 46th–52nd Streets in Midtown. Walk 10–15 minutes east to Times Square, or catch the M42 bus across 42nd St to the subway. Taxis and Uber/Lyft line up outside the terminal.
  • 2
Brooklyn Cruise Terminal (Red Hook)Located in Red Hook, Brooklyn. No subway is nearby — take a taxi, Uber/Lyft (20 min to Lower Manhattan, ~$25–35), or the NYC Ferry from Pier 11 in Manhattan back to the terminal area.
  • 3
SubwayFrom Midtown, the A/C/E at 42nd St–Port Authority is the fastest link to most of Manhattan. A single ride is $2.90 with a MetroCard or contactless tap. Machines at all stations accept credit cards.
  • 4
Luggage & securityBoth terminals have security screening and luggage storage. Allow 20–30 minutes for re-boarding lines on busy port days.

💡 Pro move: Traffic in Midtown can be severe — budget extra time if returning by taxi or rideshare. The subway is often faster.

Insider Tips

  • 🚇
Subway is king. A single MetroCard tap gets you anywhere in the five boroughs. Tap with a credit/debit card or Apple/Google Pay — no need to buy a card for short visits.
  • 🎟️
Book Statue of Liberty tickets weeks ahead. Same-day tickets often sell out. Crown access requires reservations months in advance.
  • 🍕
Eat like a New Yorker. Dollar slice pizza joints are everywhere in Midtown. Joe's Pizza (7 Carmine St, West Village) is a classic. Avoid tourist-trap restaurants around Times Square.
  • 💰
Budget realistically. New York is expensive. A meal for two at a casual restaurant easily runs $60–80 with tip. Museum admissions, observation decks, and ferry tickets add up quickly — prioritize before you go.
  • 🚕
Rideshare beats taxis. Uber and Lyft are reliable and often cheaper than yellow cabs, especially from Brooklyn Cruise Terminal where taxi availability can be limited.
