Insider Tips

  • 🚕
Use JUTA taxis only. Registered JUTA taxis have red license plates. Avoid unlicensed drivers, especially in downtown Kingston. Your cruise director can arrange taxis or recommend operators.
  • Leave Kingston early. Traffic on the Palisadoes road and in downtown Kingston can be severe. Build in at least 90 minutes of buffer before all-aboard — missing the ship here is an expensive lesson.
  • 💵
USD works fine. US dollars are accepted nearly everywhere in Port Royal and Kingston tourist areas. Change may come back in Jamaican dollars. ATMs in Kingston dispense JMD.
  • 🐟
Don't skip Gloria's Seafood. Located just outside the cruise village, Gloria's is world-famous for escovitch fish and curried lobster. It's the best meal you'll have in port — go early before it fills up.
  • ☀️
Lime Cay needs planning. The water taxi runs on demand from Port Royal docks. On weekdays there are no facilities on the cay — bring your own water, snacks, and reef-safe sunscreen.
