Insider Tips

  • 💨
Wind is constant: a windproof jacket is essential even on warm sunny days — and use a strap on your hat.
  • 🚲
Pre-book your bike hire weeks before your cruise. Tiree has no walk-up rental stand at the pier — Blackhouse Watersports and Tiree Fitness can deliver to the tender landing.
  • 💷
Carry some cash (GBP): mobile signal can drop, making card machines unreliable at smaller venues.
  • 🌿
Stay on paths near the machair — this rare coastal grassland ecosystem is extremely fragile and easily damaged by foot traffic off designated routes.
  • 🪲
No midges: unlike mainland Scotland, Tiree's persistent Atlantic wind keeps the infamous Highland midge at bay — a rare Scottish blessing.
