  • 3
No taxis — plan aheadThe island has very limited transport. If you want to reach Raasay House (1.5 km north) or further-flung trails, arrange transfers or prepare to walk. Book any tours or meals before your cruise departs.

Weather can change fastLayers and waterproofs are essential. Midges (tiny biting insects) are active June–September on calm days — bring repellent.

💡 Pro move: The community pontoon operates first-come, first-served when cruise ships are not present. Tender schedules are set by the ship.

Insider Tips

  • 📅
Book the distillery in advance. Tour slots are limited and sell out quickly when cruise ships are in port. Reserve online before your voyage.
  • 🦟
Bring midge repellent (June–September). Scots swear by Smidge or Avon Skin So Soft. Even a light breeze helps, but calm mornings can be brutal.
  • 🥾
Wear proper footwear. Most trails are gravel, grass, or boggy moorland. Trainers are fine for the village and distillery; hiking boots recommended for anything beyond.
  • 💷
Carry some cash. Cards are accepted at the distillery, Raasay House, and the community store, but cash is useful for smaller purchases. No ATM on the island.
  • 📶
Mobile signal is patchy. Download offline Google Maps of Raasay before you disembark. The distillery and Raasay House offer free Wi-Fi.
