Getting Ashore

There is no cruise pier — ships anchor offshore and use tenders or Zodiacs to land at the Port Mòr slipway.

Getting Ashore at Isle of Muck

  • 1
Tender to Port MòrYour ship will anchor in the bay. Tenders or Zodiacs ferry passengers to the Port Mòr slipway on the island's southeast coast. Conditions can affect landings — follow crew guidance.
  • 2
Step ashore at the Community HubThe slipway is beside the Community Hall, public toilets, and the Tearoom — everything is within a 2-minute walk.
  • 3
Explore entirely on footThere are no taxis, buses, or car hire. The island has one paved road and is flat enough that almost every attraction is reachable in under an hour's walk.

💡 Pro move: Wear waterproof shoes and bring layers — Hebridean weather changes fast. Gates should be closed after you pass through farmland.

Insider Tips

  • 🧥
Layer up: Hebridean weather can deliver sun, rain, and wind within the hour. A waterproof jacket and sturdy waterproof shoes are non-negotiable.
  • 💷
Bring cash: The Tearoom and craft shop accept cards, but the satellite connection can drop. There are no ATMs on the island — carry British Pounds.
  • 🐄
Respect the working farm: Close all gates behind you, don't climb drystone walls, and give livestock space — especially during lambing in spring.
  • 🦟
Midge season (Jun–Sep): Scottish midges can be fierce on calm days. Pack insect repellent (Smidge or Avon Skin So Soft). Breezy days on Muck are usually fine.
  • Tearoom fills fast: When a ship calls, the small kitchen gets busy quickly. Head to the Gallanach Lodge Tearoom early or later in your visit to avoid the rush.
