The largest and wildest of the Galapagos Islands, Isabela is a place where white-sand streets meet volcanic giants — and Galapagos penguins swim past your Zodiac.
All visitors arrive by Zodiac/panga — no cruise ships dock directly at Isabela Island.
💡 Pro move: Bring reef-safe, biodegradable sunscreen — standard sunscreen is banned in the Galapagos to protect marine life.
All cruise visitors tender to shore via Zodiac or panga — there is no deep-water cruise berth at Isabela Island.

Find Galapagos snorkel tours →Walk the flamingo estuary boardwalk to this conservation facility where you can see giant tortoises at every life stage — from palm-sized hatchlings to 100-year-old giants. One of the best tortoise encounters in the Galapagos.
Find tortoise center tours →Ancient lava flows have formed underwater arches and bridges teeming with white-tip reef sharks, giant manta rays, seahorses, and sea turtles. Widely considered the best snorkeling in the Galapagos — requires a guided boat tour.
Find Los Túneles tours →A short 10-minute boat ride from the pier leads to this rocky islet where white-tip reef sharks rest in a narrow lava crevice. Penguin snorkeling and marine iguana colonies make this an easy half-day wildlife hit.
Find Tintoreras tours →A challenging 10-mile round-trip hike to one of the world's largest volcanic calderas. Guides required. Best for fit travelers; the views are extraordinary and the lava fields otherworldly.
Find Sierra Negra hikes →A massive stone wall built by convict labor during Isabela's brutal penal colony era (1945–1959). Reach it by bicycle through mangroves and past wild giant tortoises — the ride is half the experience.
Find Wall of Tears bike tours →Puerto Villamil is flat with sandy streets — easy to wander on foot, and a short bike ride connects you to the island's best sights.
Walk from the pier past Concha de Perla snorkeling lagoon (worth the 2-minute detour), through town along Avenida Antonio Gil, then follow the wooden boardwalk west through salt lagoons to see wild flamingos.
Rent a bicycle in town and follow the sandy road west past Playa Grande beach, through dry forest and mangroves, watching for giant tortoises crossing the path. The Wall of Tears sits at the end of the road with a short walking loop and viewpoint.
