Both the Royal Quay and the tender pier land you within easy walking distance of Kronborg Castle and the old town.

Getting Ashore in Helsingør

  • 1
Ships ≤150 m — Royal QuaySmaller and expedition ships dock directly at the Royal Quay, a 5-minute flat walk to Axeltorv square and 10–15 minutes to Kronborg Castle along the harbor path.
  • 2
Larger ships — Tender to floating pierShips over 150 m (or deep draft) anchor southeast of the harbor entrance. Tenders run to a modern 90 m floating pier directly in front of Kulturværftet (Culture Yard). The crossing takes 5–10 minutes.

Insider Tips

  • 💳
Go cashless: Denmark is effectively a cashless society. Contactless cards and Apple/Google Pay work everywhere — toilets, ice cream stalls, train machines. No need to exchange currency.
  • 🛂
Sweden day-trip = passport required: Sweden performs random border checks. Bring your passport if you plan to take the ferry to Helsingborg, even for a short visit.
  • 🎭
Kronborg in summer: Live Hamlet performances run July–August in the castle grounds. Book castle tickets online in advance — queues can build when multiple ships are in port.
  • 🍦
Brostræde Is: A tiny alley off Stengade, been baking waffle cones since 1922. Order the classic soft-serve with guf (sweet strawberry marshmallow topping) — a local ritual.
  • 🚆
Copenhagen is 45 min away: If you've done Kronborg before, board the Kystbanen coastal train at Helsingør station (trains every 20 min). Scenic ride; buy tickets at machines or via the DSB app.
