Insider Tips

  • Check your docking location: Cunningham Pier puts you on the waterfront instantly. If your ship uses Corio Quay, take the free shuttle — do not try to walk (it's an industrial port area).
  • 🌦️
Four seasons in one day: Melbourne locals joke about unpredictable weather — the same applies to Geelong. Pack a light rain jacket even if the forecast looks sunny.
  • 🚆
Melbourne is easy: Geelong Railway Station is a 15-min walk from the waterfront. V/Line trains run to Melbourne Southern Cross Station in about 60 min for under A$11 — a great option if you've visited Geelong before.
  • 💳
Cards everywhere: Australia is nearly cashless — tap-to-pay is accepted at cafes, taxis, and even market stalls. Tipping is not customary.
  • ☀️
UV warning: Australian UV levels are extreme even on cool or overcast days. Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen, wear a hat, and keep sunglasses handy.
