The world's great wildlife encounter — fearless tortoises, penguins, and sea lions in a living laboratory that Darwin never forgot. Every landing here is unlike anywhere else on earth.
There are no gangways here — you board a zodiac panga for every landing, either stepping onto dry rock (dry landing) or wading ashore through calf-deep water (wet landing).
💡 Pro move: Bring clean, unripped USD bills — merchants throughout Ecuador frequently refuse worn or damaged currency.
The Galapagos has no traditional cruise pier infrastructure — all landings are by zodiac panga from anchorage.

Every excursion here is once-in-a-lifetime — from walking among fearless giant tortoises in volcanic highlands to snorkeling with penguins at Pinnacle Rock.
A 25-minute taxi ride from Puerto Ayora pier brings you to ranches like El Chato and Rancho Primicias, where Galapagos giant tortoises roam free across misty highland pastures. Natural lava tunnels run beneath the farms. This is the most accessible wild tortoise encounter in the archipelago.
Find Santa Cruz tortoise tours →The most photographed view in the Galapagos. A wooden boardwalk and 376 steps lead to the 114 m summit above Pinnacle Rock with panoramic views of volcanic lava fields. Snorkel from the crescent beach below with Galapagos penguins, sea turtles, and white-tip reef sharks.
Find Bartolomé excursions →One of the world's largest active volcanic calderas, Sierra Negra is a strenuous 16 km round-trip hike from the Isabela highlands. The caldera rim at 1,124 m offers extraordinary views across the island and lava fields. A guided excursion from Puerto Villamil pier.
Find Sierra Negra volcano hikes →A short panga ride from Puerto Villamil to rocky lava islets where white-tip reef sharks rest motionless in a narrow crevice. Snorkel alongside Galapagos penguins and rays in crystal-clear channels. One of the most unusual wildlife encounters in the islands.
Find Las Tintoreras tours →Visit the barrel established by British whalers in 1793 — still an active hand-delivery post office where passengers drop unstamped postcards to be hand-delivered by future travelers. Then visit Asilo de la Paz in the highlands: pirate caves, a freshwater spring, and free-ranging tortoises.
Find Floreana shore excursions →A free, self-guided walk from Puerto Ayora — 10 minutes to the trailhead, then a 2.5 km paved path through dry arid forest to one of South America's most beautiful beaches. Playa Brava faces the open Pacific; Playa Mansa, around the headland, is a calm mangrove lagoon perfect for swimming alongside marine iguanas.
Find Santa Cruz beach walks →Walks in the Galapagos range from free beachside strolls to guided volcanic summit hikes — always watch for wildlife on the trail.
From the main passenger pier, walk east along the harbour waterfront past the fish market (watch pelicans and sea lions compete for scraps), then continue along Avenida Charles Darwin to the Charles Darwin Research Station. The free outer grounds have giant tortoise enclosures and exhibits. Return the same way or detour to Playa de la Estación for a swim.
From the passenger pier, walk north along the paved coastal malecon past sea-lion-occupied benches and the Interpretation Center to the trail up Cerro Tijeretas. Both Great and Magnificent Frigatebirds nest here; the viewpoint looks down onto Tijeretas Bay where snorkeling with sea lions and sea turtles is excellent.
