Insider Tips

  • 💳
Carry INR cash. ATMs exist in town but can run out. Most tuk-tuks, temple gates, and small shops are cash-only. ₹500–₹1,000 is plenty for most shore days.
  • 🛺
Negotiate tuk-tuk fares upfront. A full-day tuk-tuk covering fort, caves, beach, and temple runs ₹800–₹1,200 (~$10–15 USD). Agree before you get in.
  • 👕
Dress conservatively for temples and churches. Cover shoulders and knees when visiting Gangeshwar Temple, St. Paul's Church, and the Diu Museum.
  • 🌊
Swim only at Nagoa or Ghoghla Beach. Both have safety flags and lifeguards. Jallandhar and other rocky beaches have strong currents — scenic, not safe for swimming.
  • 🍤
Try the seafood. Diu is famous for fresh prawns, pomfret, and lobster. O'Coqueiro restaurant does excellent Portuguese-style fish dishes in a garden setting.
