Insider Tips

  • 🌧️
Layer up: West Scotland weather changes fast. A waterproof jacket and sturdy shoes are non-negotiable regardless of how the morning looks.
  • 🦟
Midge season (May-Sep): Scottish midges can be fierce on still days. Bring DEET repellent or Avon Skin So Soft — the locals' preferred choice.
  • 🚕
No taxis on site: Pre-book any taxi for Kilmartin Glen or Arduaine Garden before going ashore — local drivers are scarce and there's no rank at the pier.
  • 💷
Cash useful but not essential: The pub and café accept cards, but carrying a few pounds is handy for smaller purchases or tips on boat excursions.
  • 📡
Patchy signal: Mobile data can be weak or absent. Download maps offline before leaving the ship. Free Wi-Fi at The Lord of the Isles pub.
