Getting Ashore

Copenhagen uses two cruise areas: Langelinie, a short walk from the Little Mermaid and center, and the newer Oceankaj a few km north, which needs a shuttle or transfer into town.

Into the capital of cool

  • 1
Langelinie pier (central)The closer berth — a 5-minute walk to the Little Mermaid and ~25 minutes on foot (or a short bus) to Nyhavn and the heart of the city.
  • 2
Oceankaj terminal (Nordhavn)The larger terminal ~4 km north. Shuttle buses, taxis, or public bus 25 run into the center; budget travel time both ways.
  • 3
Getting around the centerOnce downtown, Copenhagen is wonderfully walkable and bike-friendly, with the metro and harbour buses (yellow boats) filling any gaps.

💡 Pro move: Check which terminal your ship uses — Langelinie is walkable, Oceankaj is not. Either way the city's core is compact, flat, and easy once you're in it.

Piers & Tendering by Cruise Line

Copenhagen splits cruise calls between central Langelinie (walkable) and the larger Oceankaj terminal to the north (shuttle needed) — always confirm which berth is yours.

Insider Tips

  • 🚏
Know your terminal. Langelinie is walkable; Oceankaj needs a shuttle or bus 25 — plan your transport and return time accordingly.
  • 💳
Cards rule, but mind fees. Denmark is largely cashless; a contactless card works everywhere, though watch for foreign-card surcharges at small shops.
  • 🚲
Respect the bike lanes. Cyclists are everywhere and fast — never walk or stand in the blue/raised bike lanes.
  • 🎡
Tivoli is in the center. If you've got kids or love old-world fun parks, Tivoli sits right by the main station — easy to slot into a city day.
  • 🧥
Layer for changeable weather. Sea breezes and quick showers are common — a light waterproof keeps a walking day comfortable.
