Getting Ashore

Cascais Marina is a modern facility opened in 1999 with over 600 berths, right beside the town. Smaller cruise vessels and expedition ships can berth at the marina, but larger cruise ships anchor in Cascais Bay and run tenders ashore — there is no dedicated deep-water cruise pier here.

Getting Ashore in Cascais

  • 1
Tender or walk offIf your ship anchors in the bay, take the ship's tender to the marina or town quay. Smaller vessels that berth at the marina are a straightforward walk-off. Either way, clear Portuguese customs if required and head for the marina gate.
  • 2
Walk to the old townTurn left out of the marina and follow the seafront promenade 5–10 minutes to reach Largo Luís de Camões, the main square.
  • 3
Trains to Lisbon or EstorilCascais train station is 10 min on foot. Trains to Lisbon Cais do Sodré take ~40 min (Linha de Cascais, runs every 20 min, ~€2.30). Estoril is one stop (4 min).
  • 4

Insider Tips

  • 🚂
Train to Lisbon is a bargain. Cascais station is 10 min from the marina; the Linha de Cascais runs frequently to central Lisbon Cais do Sodré for ~€2.30 each way. Allow 40–45 min each direction and plan to be back 90 min before departure.
  • 🎟
Pre-book Sintra palace tickets. Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira routinely sell out or have multi-hour queues. Book online the night before or weeks in advance — walk-up tickets are often unavailable in summer.
  • 💶
Cash and card both work. Most restaurants and shops in Cascais accept Visa/Mastercard; smaller market vendors may prefer cash. ATMs are plentiful near the marina and main square.
  • 🌬
Guincho Beach is windy. It's a world-class windsurfing spot, which means it can be very breezy. Bring a layer even in summer if you plan to cycle or sit on the beach there.
  • 🦚
Visit Marechal Carmona Park. The park surrounding the Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães is free, peaceful, and home to roaming peacocks — a surprisingly delightful 20-minute detour just a 10-minute walk from the marina.
