Insider Tips

  • 💵
Carry USD cash. Lebanon's economy is cash-heavy. USD is accepted almost everywhere in Beirut. Bring enough for the day — ATMs are unreliable and credit card acceptance is limited outside major hotels.
  • ⚠️
Check travel advisories. Beirut's political and security situation can shift. Many cruise lines skip Beirut if tensions are elevated — verify your port call is confirmed before planning excursions.
  • 📵
No cameras in Jeita Grotto. Phones and cameras are prohibited inside the cave system. Lockers are available at the entrance.
  • 🚕
Negotiate taxi fares upfront. Street taxis in Beirut do not use meters. Agree on the price before you get in, or use Uber/Careem for transparent pricing.
  • 🕌
Dress modestly for mosques. The Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque welcomes visitors but requires covered shoulders and legs. Scarves are available at the entrance.
