  • 2
Transfer to Tanggu Railway StationTaxi to Tanggu Railway Station takes 30–40 min (approx. CNY 50–75). Pre-booked private cars are more reliable and can go directly to Beijing, or include a train station drop-off.
  • 3
High-speed train to BeijingBullet trains from Tanggu to Beijing South Station run regularly, taking about 60 min (CNY 55 second class). Beijing South has direct subway connections to Tiananmen and other central areas.

💡 Pro move: Beijing is 2.5–3 hrs round-trip from the pier by train. An overnight excursion (two-day tour with Beijing hotel) is strongly recommended if your cruise allows it.

Insider Tips

  • 🎟
Book tickets before you sail. The Forbidden City and Mutianyu Great Wall require timed-entry tickets booked online in advance — they sell out. Forbidden City is closed Mondays.
  • 📱
Set up WeChat Pay or Alipay before arrival. China is largely cashless. Many small vendors and some attractions don't accept foreign cards. Link a foreign card in the apps before you leave home.
  • 🔒
VPN required for Google and Western apps. Download a VPN on all your devices before entering China — Google Maps, Instagram, Gmail, and WhatsApp are blocked without one.
  • 🚆
Private transfer vs. train: Taxis from Tanggu station are fast; private cars door-to-door are easiest. Budget CNY 55 (≈$8) per leg for the high-speed train second-class seat.
  • Time your return carefully. Allow 3 hours for the return trip (Beijing → train → taxi → pier). Ship excursions provide the most security; reputable private tour operators also guarantee returns.
