Insider Tips

  • 🕐
Book the château in advance. Château d'Angers and the Apocalypse Tapestry are the reason most passengers are here — entry queues can be long in summer. Pre-booking online saves time.
  • 🍷
Buy Anjou wine at a cave. The Anjou appellation makes world-class Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Pick up a bottle from a local wine shop — supermarkets stock good regional labels too.
  • 🚃
Use the tram for outer attractions. Terra Botanica and the Cointreau distillery are outside the walkable core — Angers' tram system is cheap, modern, and easy to navigate with a tap-to-pay card.
  • 💶
Card payments widely accepted. Angers is a modern French city — contactless cards work almost everywhere. Keep a few euros for smaller market stalls or rural cave tastings.
  • 🕌
Monday closures apply. The Musée des Beaux-Arts and some other city museums close on Mondays. Check schedules if your visit falls on a Monday.
