Cruise ships do not dock at Alang itself — the yard is an active industrial zone. Ships typically use Bhavnagar port or anchor offshore, with Alang reached by road.
💡 Pro move: Foreign nationals wishing to enter the active yard must obtain a No Objection Certificate from India's Ministry of External Affairs in advance — not feasible on a cruise day call. The roadside view and market are open without permits.
Alang has no passenger pier; cruise calls use Bhavnagar port as the closest practical landing point.
| Cruise Line | Typical Berth / Arrival | Dock or Tender |
|---|---|---|
| Expedition / specialty cruise lines | Bhavnagar Port or anchor, ~50 km from Alang📍 | Tendered |
| Cargo / positioning calls | Bhavnagar commercial berth📍 | Docked |
The yard itself is the draw, but Gujarat's surroundings offer extraordinary day-trip options if the ship allows enough time.
Drive the 10 km coastal stretch alongside the breaking plots. At high tide, ships are intentionally driven aground; at low tide, workers swarm the hulls with cutting torches. The scale is staggering. Visit the salvage market at the northern end to buy ship memorabilia.

Find Bhavnagar city tours →There is little to walk in Alang itself — it's an active industrial zone. The coastal road is best covered by vehicle; save your legs for the Bhavnagar old city or the temple steps at Palitana.
Park near the northern end of the breaking yards and walk the roadside stretch closest to the salvage market. You'll look out over the beached hulls from the public verge. The market stalls here sell everything from ship clocks to lifeboats.
